You wrote me a very kind note while I was at the Financial Times. Well, I am moving on! It was a great run for 21 years and now it’s time to move on, this time with editorial judgment that is not filtered through the “house view”!
My new publication is called Thinking Ahead. The focus is on what is happening next in the geopolitics of Money. My forward analysis will be there to give you an edge in picking relative value among prospective investments, and to cut through the fog and hypocrisy spread by financial promoters and the political class.
In the course of writing my column in the FT, I was early in predicting the effect of the COVID pandemic on the world’s supply chains. I caught the first signs of the fertilizer shortage that would lead to a world food crisis. I saw how Europe was heading to a natural gas shortage even before the Russian attack on Ukraine.
I may not have a psychic gift, but I do read the documents, especially the footnotes. “Executive Summaries” are for amateurs. I seek to identify leaks in essential financial plumbing, shadowy global politico-economic developments, and where material reality clashes with politicians’ and promoter’s promises.
Starting today, you’ll be able to follow me on Thinking Ahead on Substack. You will a receive a weekly ‘column’ of observations along with shorter writings over the course of each week.
For the next three weeks, I will be providing this as a free trial.
I look forward to your signing up for a subscription!
Best,
John
